Ken Trout : Not really an Emmitsburg Baby Photographer

Yes, the title is a deliberate attempt at being tricksy with search engines.  Its a pet peeve of mine to read blog titles like that, so I thought I'd poke a little fun at it.   But the title is true, the only baby I have really photographed in the last three years is Logan.

Sandy told us Logan was ready for some 6 month pictures, he could sit up on his own.  Since its not quite time to stick him up in a tree, I thought a seamless background would be best.   It was a lot of fun.  We did basic portraits, some action shots, some stuff with Mommy, some stuff with Monkey, and we even did an outfit change-- or rather an outfit reduction.

Setup was almost my typical seamless setup.  There are two lights on the background.  I have a large softbox to camera left of the little guy, and a reflector to the right.

I experimented a bit this time.  I decided I wasn't going to blow out the paper into pure white, I was aiming for more an eggshell white.  It doesn't look as "clean", but I like it.  It doesn't make post-processing as easy as a pure white does though.  I couldn't, for example, make it look like he was sitting in front of a 100 foot wall with this lighting setup.

Hope you enjoyed peeking at some of my favorites from the session.
